This two bedroom cottage has everything you need to vacation comfortably.

Covered front porch is unusually well protected from the weather.

This property is waterfront (as the aerial photo shows), but there are no water views from the house. You can walk to the waters edge in a minute, down the road to the right. Enjoy a picnic, a beer or sunset cocktail and soak up rays and the lovely view of the bay and islands. Seeing wild horses across the bay is not unusual. I swim off the sandy landing there.

The 5 mile long, almost deserted public beach is a 5 minute drive. There is free parking. Don’t pet the wild horses, and watch for their calling card.

We rent kayaks. Launch them right from the property and paddle across the bay to several islands with smaller uninhabited beaches. Two kayaks are $50 a day. Buddy system required. $100 for two kayaks for the length of your vacation.

Bring your trailer boat, your fishing rod, bring kayaks, bring paddleboards, wind surfers, Kite-board (usually plenty of wind).

Cedar Island is only for nature enthusiasts. Boaters, fishermen, campers and wildlife lovers know this 19,000 acre National Nature preserve is a rare undeveloped treasure with only 100 houses and 350 people.

If you want restaurants, shops, bars and night life, this is not for you. Honestly, city dwellers are usually not happy here. There are three businesses. Cedar Island has one family owned wholesale fish house next door. Ask nicely and get today’s catch at wholesale prices. We have a country general store. If they don’t have it, you don’t need it. And we have one beach side restaurant bar that opens when they feel like it.

You are going to be cooking on the Bar-B-Q or in the kitchen.

It is easy to drive on island by the Route 12 causeway bridge, designated a National Scenic Drive. Or access the island by the Ocracoke Car Ferry (very low car fare).

Get in cheap while we are getting up to speed. It is an imperfectly great deal. We are still working around the yard and in the workshop. See the work shop in the right side yard by the road. We may have cars and truck in the side yard. We will make certain we don’t make noise that disturbs you, but you likely will see us around. We promise to take good care of you.
