He is more famously known for loaning the Indiana government over one million dollars without security to help the state avoid bankruptcy during the American Civil War. The Lanier Mansion is a staple landmark of Madison; The Lanier Suite honors Lanier’s legacy and puts a modern twist on “The Informal Parlor” in Lanier’s mansion with inspiration from the deep green drapes and gold accents from the historic wallpaper.
